A love letter to Autumn
Autumn
Serene, peaceful, calm
With a slight hint of gloominess
Romantically beautiful you are
I fancied you when I was young
And fall for you the moment I met you
Yet there is only another month to be with you
Before you succumbed to the bleak winter
Please…just stay….for a little longer….would you?

Taiwan: 台北景點 Taipei Sights
After a good night sleep, it's time to feed our stomach! The restaurant at the hotel offered both traditional Taiwanese and western breakfast. I fancy congee so congee it was for me, not a second thought! In fact, I had congee every morning for my 1 week stay in Taiwan!

There were a lot to see in Taipei, really wish we could stay a bit longer.
忠烈祠 Martyr's Shrine
A Memorial to honour the memory of those who lost their lives during the establishment of the Republic of China. The building built in 1969 resembles Ming dynasty architecture.

The magnificient Lover Bridge of Tamsui (情人橋 )

國立故宮博物院 National Palace Museum
World's largest assemblage of priceless Chinese art treasures, one which spans over China's nearly 5,000 year of history. It's a shame that not much photos taken here. The place is huge and we didn't have time to run around taking picture of the whole architecture.

Of course, the must visit spot of Taipei - the tallest building in the world

国立中正纪念堂 Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall

Taiwan: First night in Taipei
We arrived into Taiwan on the night of 19th March. After a 7-hour flight (including flying from Kuching to KL), we were already quite exhausted. Hence, we only went for a brief walk to take pleasure in Taipei's night, a simple take-away dinner and retired early to recharge ourselves for the next day...

台灣小吃 (Taiwanese snacks)
Warning: Post contains mouthwatering pictures that may cause non-stop drooling. Recommended reading after meal. If drooling persists for an extended period, please keep stuffing yourself with food, lots of fooooood!!
Taiwan is undoubtedly a food heaven. If you're a glutton like me, who lives to eat then Taiwan is a must-go destination. There are tonnes of funny named, interesting looking finger licking food that would make you forget all about your shopping spree I tell you. SERIOUS!
Here is just a handful to whet your appetite.....
Tofu stuffed with Vermicelli
"Iron Egg" - basically five spices marinated hardened egg
Barbecued fermented tofu
Deep fried fermented tofu
Ice-cream with Peanut flakes roll
Squid sausage
Seaweed flavoured spiral potato chips
"Big roti wraps small roti" - curry flavoured breadcrumbs wrap
The famous "Ah Zong thin rice noodles"
And now....here comes my favourite, the most delicious among all (for me anyway)
Yes, it is fried bread with stuffing of your choice. I so love it, and now still missing it. 讚! 讚! 讚! 超讚!
Mind you, it is 官財板 NOT 棺材板 (coffin) ok though they sound the same. Taiwanese very superstitious one. I think no one would ever want to eat it if it is called 棺材板. Hehehehe

Sago worms
Chev wrote a post about her new pet not long ago. I remember when I first saw the pictures she put up, I thought it was a sausage roll but in fact, it was her beloved sago worm. A sausage roll? MUAHAHAHA I couldn't believe myself....how ridiculous! All I could think of was food, nothing but food! Sausage roll my head lah, sausage roll! Served me right that I put on 3 kilos but now shed it all off already lah V(^_^)V!! I didn't starved myself ok, I was sick mah? Aiya, I always got sick whenever I went back to Malaysia, too much food body cannot take! Hahaha!
I have digressed, haven't I? *Quickly pull myself back*
Ok, so what was I suppose to write again? Yes, the sago worm! Well, I happened to meet with friends of Chev's pet when we were in Serian, about 40 miles from Kuching. That was my first time meeting them, they were really fat and juicy, and kind of cute I must say....don't you think?

Then, I have another encounter with them again during my visit to Sarawak Cultural Village at Damai, Kuching. They were still fat, juicy and cute, but they were not moving......sadly, they were barbecued. With 1 ringgit, visitor can enjoy one juicy worm.
Rick was so brave, he paid 1 ringgit without 2nd thought, pick a fat one and put into his mouth......*Eeewwwwww*

Then......I DID TOO!!!!!!!!! (O.O)!! (OMG, I couldn't believe I did that, eating the sausage roll, I mean the sago worm)

Ok, the smile doesn't resembled what I feltI smiled for the camera only ok, not because I so wanted to eat that worm. The clip tells it all.....
Ok lah, it wasn’t that bad actually. The taste? Quite nice, taste a bit like milk but the head very hard. I should have pulled the head off before putting it into my mouth.
Ok, I think Chev is gonna piak me with a big sotong, or whatever she can grab. *RUN~~~~*

Winnie's wedding
We attended Winnie's wedding in Miri while we were in Malaysia last month. Winnie, a very sweet, beautiful and a truly talented gal is a very very good old friend of mine, well she is more like a little sister to me than friend I should say since she is many years younger than this old pig (me lah!).
Her newly wedded parents moved into my neighbourhood yonks ago before she was born and I met Winnie when she was about one month old. I could still remember the time we spent together, chasing around the block, playing masak-masak and laughing out loud like nobody cares. Those times were fun, just pure and simple! So when she told me about her big day, I made every effort to be there and glad I did! In fact, my whole family (parents, bro, sis in law, my nephew, myself and Rick) flew to Miri for the reception!
It was a grand wedding, in fact the biggest wedding reception I've ever attended and heard of, 140 tables (1400 guests!), held at Eastwood golf course in Miri. We were treated with good food, non-stop live entertainment and their very meaningful wedding MV.
Pinkish setting
So many tables
My parents and I
So beautiful.....
So romantic......
Posing on the bridge
Here comes the pretty bride and the handsome groom.....
What a sweet couple
Cake cutting ceremony
We didn’t get to spend much time with the couple on the night but the newlyweds and Winnie’s mum visited us the next day bringing along their bridal photos to show us. That’s a very nice gesture of them, much appreciated!
Once again, I would like to wish the newlyweds many happiness and a joyful life together. Congratulations!

The end of my 1 month holiday....
I am now back in my old nest in New Zealand. *cough cough*
I am not only a big rough charcoal ball, but a sick one. I caught the nasty flu the day before I left Kuching for NZ. The long and bumpy flight was not helping. I was almost 80% dead when I arrived into Wellington. Extremely tired. *cough cough*
Anyway, managed to unpack my luggage yesterday and here is some of my loot, all the way from Taiwan, Singapore and Kuching! *cough cough*
